SHOULDER PAIN

My shoulder pain is keeping me from living life normally. What should I do?

Don't hesitate.  If a shoulder problem is keeping you from doing normal activities, it is important to get it evaluated and treated as soon as possible. A physical therapist can determine if there is a serious shoulder injury and can come up with a shoulder pain treatment plan to meet your specific needs. A physical therapist can also recommend if you need any further imaging to your sore shoulder.

What causes my shoulder to hurt?

The shoulder is one of the most complex joints of the body. The anatomy of the shoulder actually includes 4 different joints that make up the shoulder complex. Causes of shoulder pain can come from any of these 4 different areas. A few things that could cause the pain are a rotator cuff tear, labral tear, shoulder impingement, shoulder bursitis, AC joint injury, shoulder tendinitis, biceps tendinitis, shoulder instability, and others. Because of the complexity of the joint and the many structures that live in this area, it is very important to have a skilled practitioner examine and assess the true cause of shoulder pain.

Can I fix shoulder pain without surgery?

A shoulder pain treatment plan should always start with conservative approaches to pain reduction and improvement of shoulder function. A properly carried out treatment plan restores strength, stability, mobility, and overall function. Of course, some shoulder injuries meet the requirements for referral to further imaging or surgery. However, shoulder surgery should be avoided if possible. Only have surgery as a last resort or if necessary to return to a sport or work.
